I AM A DESCRIPTION. CLICK HERE TO EDIT.

DART is the course code at Brock University that stands for Dramatic Arts.

DART 4F56 (Advanced Studies in Theatre) is a collaborative class where students learn to work as a collective to create theatrical work. This production can be either existing or newly created. The Department of Dramatic Arts then presents the production(s) as part of their public season.

DART 4P97 (Collaborative Stage Production) is the production aspect of the theatrical work. While under the supervision of an instructor and the department's production staff, the students organize, manage and execute the production work needed to support the show. This encourages collaborative work in a small festival setting.

Auditions and a letter of intent were required to apply for this course. Additionally, CV's and resumes were asked for depending on the role being applied for.

For our 2021/2022 class:

Nine students were accepted into the course and tasked to devise a theatrical piece from scratch. The students worked through a variety of activities ranging from individual projects to small and large group compositions. This was necessary to create the basis of the show. A script was developed from there. In December, a workshop presentation was held for faculty and invited guests to critique and offer general feedback on the work. The company is back to work and the full production will be held in April for a general audience. This class has been taught by two instructors: Colin Anthes in the Fall term (September to December) and Brenley Charkow in the Winter term (January to April). Each student has taken on a different role for this production which can be found under our 'Company' tab.
